Scope note
A manufactured compound of bismuth that occurs naturally as the mineral bismite. It is a heavy yellow powder, insoluble in water and soluble in acids, used as a pigment for enamels and ceramics. Also used in reflectance/transmittance testing as a colorant that permits "tagging" of a fill or coating in order to evaluate its effectiveness.
